Lady Raiders: Dominating Together

The Lady Raider volleyball team started their season with three weeks of tournaments and two-a-day practices. Their hard work paid off, dominating games and tournaments before school even started. They have a winning record of 21-5 for the pre-season and are hoping to add on wins as they begin district play.

“I think our tough pre-season schedule has done a good job of preparing us for down the road,” Head Coach Lance Simmons said. “This group of girls seems to really step up and play well in big games.”

Friday, the team began district play and they put into action all their long hours. Beating Uplift Williams in a 3-0 set, the girls kick off their district schedule with a bang.

“We have a tradition of going to eat at Chick-fil-a together before every home game,” senior Caitie Wells said.” I think this year, all the girls are super close, and we always have so much fun and we play together well!!”

As the season continues, the girls hope to built up many memories and traditions. They play well together, making it very easy to communicate on and off the court.

“We are really looking forward to making a push in our region this year and winning some playoff games,” Simmons said.

Last year, the volleyball team lost in the first round of playoffs to Glen Rose. In history of Sunnyvale volleyball, they have made it to the regional state finals in 2012. This year, they are hoping to re-write history and make it past the regional round.
